AN AFRO-GERMAN FAMILY IN NAZI GERMANY (Book One)
The first book in Ms. Kuzniar Clark’s non-fiction tetralogy is the story of Gustav Sabac el Cher. Gustav, a black man with a gift for discipline and music, grew up in Königsberg and became “the only black bandmaster of the German Army.”
This fact-filled story takes the reader back in time, over 150 years ago. There we meet the controversial Prussian Prince Albrecht, getting to know him via his travel adventures, as well as in war. Prince Albrecht brought many things from Arabia back to Prussia, one of which was a ‘human gift’ from the Egyptian Viceroy Muhammad Ali: a seven-year-old dark-skinned boy. He was given the name August Albrecht Sabac el Cher and accompanied the Prince from that point on.
The social climate of the Prussian state of the 40s and 50s was one of curiosity towards “others,” not hostility. August’s dark skin greatly benefited him, in fact. His career at Court flourished.
In 1867, he married a German woman, Anna Maria Jung, the daughter of a Berlin clothesmaker. While the happy couple lived relatively trouble free in Germany, their two children, Gustav and Elise, were dealt a different fate, as were their children who came of age in NAZI GERMANY.
Utilizing photos, records, and eyewitness accounts, this wonderful little book paints a comprehensive picture of the whole family. One learns, for example, that Gustav’s sons, Herbert and Horst, were deeply loved by all. Both mastered music early on and both pursued professional careers. While Herbert continued in this vein with measurable success, Horst was not so fortunate. In 1943 he was drafted as a Wehrmacht medic!

BLACK NAZIS! (Book Two)
Unlike her first book, which is an amazing case study of “otherness” in Nazi Germany, the second book in her “Black Wolf Tetralogy” tackles a multitude of related topics and themes, thus providing readers with several accounts of “otherness”. Contrary to what mainstream history dictates, Nazi Germany was far more practical, reasonable, and tolerant vis-à-vis race, race-mixing, ethnicity, and international relations than one might think.
With this one-of-a-kind survey, analysis, and synthesis of both mainstream and revisionist portrayals of “otherness” in Nazi Germany, she lays the groundwork for much, if not all, future research in this very neglected area of Third Reich studies. She has tapped so many rare and valuable sources, and offers such intriguing insight into her selected sources, that one cannot possibly know the Third Reich without reading this book. She skillfully explains and evidences her “BLACK NAZIS” thesis, meanwhile offering so many fresh perspectives on this passé era of history that one will be shocked to learn so much new information!
The major difference between the experience of blacks and that of other groups in the Third Reich is the lack of a systematic Nazi extermination plan,” the Deutsche Welle reported in 2010. “Moreover, because of the small number of blacks living in Germany, few people are ready to recognize that there was even a population whose experience can be discussed.

OTHERNESS IN NAZI GERMANY (Book Three)
The third book in the “Black Wolf Tetralogy” features a multitude of case studies and largely ignored primary sources. In this way, readers are exposed to a variety of Nazi viewpoints of “otherness”, as well as others’ views of the Nazis — a rare treat!
We are usually told by historians that the Nazi government “threw” public opinion “to the wind,” and cared not whether they were seen as a world pariah. If this is not stated up front in the majority of books, it is implied.
But is this true?
In just ONE example provided in the book “Showing Our Colors”, one can readily state that it is u-n-t-r-u-e. And this goes back to what Ms. Kuzniar discovered about Nazi race laws not only being flexibly applied but that racism in Nazi Germany came second behind foreign policy.
From gross maltreatment of Black POWs to African-Nazi collaboration, Ms. Kuzniar surveys and analyzes so much anecdotal evidence in this installment that one may want to read it more than once!

NATION & RACE (Book Four)
Book number four, last in the “Black Wolf Tetralogy”, is by far the largest of the set. It is astounding in its scope and thoroughness. Author Kuzniar surveys, analyzes, and synthesizes — as in the first book — an awesome array of both primary and secondary evidence to give this installment its scholastic character.
Unlike most scholarly texts dealing with racial anthropology and race relations, this book is fun, factual, and readable. Ms. Kuzniar turns complicated arguments, ideas, and excerpts into layman’s terminology, so that ALL readers can understand what the scholars have said, and are now saying, about Nazism and racism.
This book is packed with facts and intriguing anecdotes to keep the reader interested. Also much appreciated is the author’s ability to place Nazi Germany within the broader context of Western history, thought, and process, as opposed to portraying them as a “freakish” deviation, as is so common.
The book ends with a fascinating recollection of the author’s battles with “Axis History Forum” trolls and Norwich University censurers, so that her readers can appreciate not only what she went through personally to publish and promote this thesis, but the serious and growing assault on free speech and free thought in America today.
National Socialism felt that the boundaries of the Volk had started collapsing post-Versailles. As a result the Nazis were desperate to reassert the distinguishing boundaries of the German Volk—but they struggled to identify just what those boundaries would be. Was language the key to maintaining German cohesiveness and promoting further unity? Had not the German language preceded the ‘German race’? Even the Nazis recognized that Germans did not constitute a single unified race. They were, rather, a racial composite which had melded well—a conception that Hitler himself endorsed. Was promotion of the Nordic racial element as ‘the tie that binds’ the key to delineating Germanness, as the SS as a whole believed? Was the state itself the true distinguishing boundary of the Volk: a geographical barrier which maintained Germandom against any unwanted incursions of foreign others, such as Slavs? And if this was the case, why did it prove so difficult for the NS authorities and theorists to distinguish Germandom from Slavdom in Eastern Europe? After all, as John Connelly has proven, there were tens of thousands of Poles and Russians who looked Nordic enough and were therefore worthy of Germanization. But, if this was to be the case, then what are we to make of Hitler’s statements against assimilation and acculturation (i.e. Germanization) of raciocultural others?
